Systemic inequalities exist within physics, astronomy, and the wider STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine) sector which act as barriers to access to -- and progression through -- these disciplines for women, minority groups, and those with limited access to "science capital". I am committed to improving this situation through my work, scientific outreach activities and my active engagement in equity, diversity and inclusion work.
I founded and chair PRISM Exeter, a city-wide network for LGBTQ+ STEMM students and professionals. (Use the link below to find out more about this aspect of my equity, diversity and inclusion work.) I have been recognised for this work through various regional and national award nominations, and have received the 2019 CEMPS Diversity and Outreach Award and the 2021 Institute of Physics Phillips Award.
I provide talks or workshops on LGBTQ+ inclusion within STEMM, in particular, and speak at events focussed on improving the gender balance in STEMM.
